Summary
The Network Product Support team have now converted 100% of the Verrotech Firewall kernels successfully. Article The specially built kernel at the heart of most Verrotech Router/Firewall products has been upgraded to version 5 on 100% of these platforms. The d5 kernel (2.4.18-d5) addresses some small glitches found with earlier releases as well as providing additional functionality for the firewall. Customers will have received an update to their manuals or can use the online resource at (verrotech.com/support/network.php).
Unlike d4 this upgrade was deemed necessary for deployment on all compatible systems. With the timeline tight to get the updates in place before the Christmas holidays it was imperitive that the maintainance was performed faultlessly. The Network Product Support team handled this task perfectly bringing about the 100% compliance with d5 well within their 3rd November - 22nd December timeline. The longest outage experienced by a customer would have been 20 minutes, had the office been open and the upgrade not taken place at midnight.
Announcing the completion, team leader Chris Clayton stated that both the upgrades and the initial feedback showed that the upgrade process and the kernel updates themselves had been a 'complete success'.
